An Unusually Fine Film

People from your planet (at least most people in the US) seem to love movies that feature one-dimensional characters and fit into a generic plot-line, preferably with lots of righteous violence.

If you would like to see a moving film that conveys complex emotions more realistically, I highly recommend The Theory of Everything.

It is the story of astrophysicist Stephen Hawking and his wife Jane, starting from the beginning of their relationship and diagnosis of his disease. It beautifully depicts their inner conflicts as well as their complicated relationship mixing cooperation and conflict. I have read that it is pretty accurate, though it takes some artistic liberties.

As my sister Barbara says, it could have been 15 minutes shorter, but even so, Ann and I were emotionally drained by the end.

The multiplexes probably will be full of the usual Hollywood fare this holiday season and this film won’t be there for long. So if you want to see it, don’t blink or it could be gone.
