Tenure-Track ADR Position Opening at UNLV

Friend of Indisputably Jean Sternlight sent a message out to the list serv this morning about UNLV’s decision to hire a new tenure-track ADR position.  She asked me to post the listing in its entirety here.  It sounds like a good gig, and getting the opportunity to work closely with Jean will be a treat.  Good luck to all applicants.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR & ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, SALTMAN CENTER FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTION

We invite applicants interested in the tenure-track position of Associate Professor & Associate Director, Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution.  We seek candidates with an established interest in the field of dispute resolution, excellent academic records, and a strong commitment to scholarship and teaching.

Since its establishment within the law school in 2003 the dispute resolution program at Boyd has been ranked among the top ten law school programs in the country by U.S. News and World Report.  The Center not only teaches law students about the multiple tools of conflict resolution but also sponsors innovative programs to educate the academic community and the public at large.

The successful applicant for the position will run a dispute resolution clinic and may also teach non-clinical courses.  While our current clinic teaches students to mediate family and community disputes the new Associate Director will have the opportunity to redesign this clinic if he/she so desires.  The Associate Director will also work with the Director and staff on other aspects of the Center’s programs such as organizing educational programs, coaching student teams, and working with the local dispute resolution community.

The William S. Boyd School of Law has an integrated tenure-track in which faculty who teach in our clinics share equal status with other faculty.  The Associate Director will receive generous support for summer research and student research assistants, and be eligible for semester-long research leave every third year.

Candidates must have earned a J.D from an ABA-accredited law school or an equivalent degree.  Salary will be competitive, based on experience.

The Boyd School of Law is now building on its record of success during its first decade as the public law school of Nevada.  We have a diverse faculty of new and experienced legal educators drawn from top institutions, and we seek colleagues who share our enthusiasm for legal scholarship and education.  In addition to the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution we also sponsor the highly ranked Thomas & Mack Legal Clinic, which has programs in six different areas:  Appellate, Education Advocacy, Family Justice, Immigration, Innocence, and Juvenile Justice.  The Boyd School of Law has 477 students enrolled (347 full-time, 130 part-time) and 44 full-time faculty, and enjoys state-of-the-art facilities at the center of the UNLV campus.  For more information on the Boyd School of Law and its Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution, please refer to our website at http://www.law.unlv.edu/.
