Faculty Hiring at Arizona State

After my blogging absence for most of May, I’ve got quite a bit to catch up on.  There’s more from the ABA DR Section Conference and more about journaling, Sheriff Joe and the DOJ, ASU’s new legal venture, and the disbarment of the former Maricopa County Prosecuting Attorney (a special for those who also teach PR).  In the meantime, a short announcement about faculty hiring.

Since I’m a member of ASU’s Appointments Committee for the coming year, part of my job is to get our hiring information out there.  Here’s a link to our hiring ad detailing our preferences, the application procedure, and the contact person to receive application materials (not me).   To preview, if you’re in the entry-level market, you’ll have to go through the AALS FAR form.  If you need to find out about that, google it and there should be plenty of information.  If you’re a lateral, here’s the critical part of the announcement:

We invite applications from outstanding individuals in any subject area, though we are particularly interested in individuals who specialize in administrative law, bankruptcy, business law, civil and criminal procedure, commercial law, evidence, Indian law (especially economic development in Indian country), and tax law, as well as individuals who teach in the first-year curriculum.

Lateral candidates must have a J.D. or Ph.D., or their equivalent, in an area related to the law school curriculum, and at least two years of experience as a tenured or tenure-track member of a law school faculty. Preferred candidates will have a history of distinguished scholarly achievement commensurate with the number of years of experience, as well as strong scholarly potential for future research.

You’ll note that ADR related fields are not listed in the areas of particular interest, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t consider an ADR person.  Specifically the Dean gave us this task – “find good people.”   Finally, although I’m not the person who can accept an application, I’m happy to answer any questions offline.
