New submission date (2/17) for Proposals to host the 2012 WIP Conference

We have decided to give some more time for interested schools to apply host the next WIP conference.  Please consider applying.

The AALS Dispute Resolution Section is seeking a host for the 6th Annual Works-in-Progress Conference in the fall of 2012. The WIP Conference has proven to be quite successful, and it has quickly become one of the “must attends” in the ADR field.  Attendees at the recent conference at Creighton  reported that Creighton and the Werner Institute were wonderful hosts and the conference was well worth the trip.

The WIP host institution is responsible for organizing all of the logistics for the conference, from picking dates, lining up hotels, and scheduling receptions and presentations. The conference host, assisted by the Conference Planning Committee (consisting of representatives of previous host institutions), is responsible for choosing the papers to be presented.

The Section’s Executive Committee will consider several criteria in selecting the next host institution, including:

• Proximity to a major airport and reasonably-priced hotels
• Planned outreach to attract junior faculty
• Planned or demonstrated outreach to attract law faculty from regional law schools
• Demonstrated engagement with the ADR academic community
• Planned mechanisms to enhance attendance and participation by knowledgeable local professionals
• Indications of institutional support for the conference (e.g., funds for meals, sufficient staffing)
• Planned mechanisms to enhance the rigorous yet collegial atmosphere of the program
• Demonstrated experience with hosting similar events
• Planned mechanisms for appropriate consultation with the Conference Planning Committee regarding conference preparation, publicity, and presenter selection
• Any special circumstances that support an institution’s application

If you have any questions about hosting this conference, either ask a previous host from Marquette, Harvard, Arizona State, Oregon or Creighton or contact me at kbolson@ualr.edu

Proposals should be sent to Kelly Browe Olson, immediate past Chair of the AALS Dispute Resolution Section c/o Terry Harrison, taharrison@ualr.edu or to me at kbolson@ualr.edu,  by February 17, 2012.  Please put “AALS ADR Section WIP Conference Proposal” in the subject matter line.
