Southwest Junior Clinicians Conference

Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University

March 16, 2012 – Tempe, Arizona

The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University is proud to host the initial Southwest Junior Clinicians Conference on Friday March 16, 2012.  This conference is intended for junior clinicians (roughly defined as less than 10 years teaching experience) to have a safe place to discuss a broad array of issues that may impact their careers as professors who teach in a clinical setting.

The conference will include plenary presentations, concurrent breakout sessions, and plenty of networking opportunities.  We invite proposals for the conference’s concurrent breakout sessions.  Proposals should address any issue(s) that may be of interest to faculty who are relatively new to clinical teaching.  Potential areas include:

  • Teaching philosophies and clinical pedagogy
  • Structuring and developing a clinic
  • Best practices
  • Maximizing clinical fellowships
  • Navigating a school’s culture
  • Fundraising
  • Summer coverage

Proposals should be limited to 250 words (approximately 1 page of text) and should include the proposer’s contact information and the names of any co-presenters who have agreed to be a part of the proposed session.  Please submit the proposal as an email attachment (Word or pdf) addressed to Zelda Graham at roselda.graham@asu.edu by Friday, December 2, 2011.

Attendees who would like to workshop their scholarship-in-progress are invited to participate in the ASU Legal Scholars Conference scheduled for Saturday March 17th.  During the Legal Scholars Conference, attendees meet in small groups organized by subject matter and provide feedback on every paper in their small group.

Scholarship monies are available for a limited number of clinical VAPs and fellows to attend the Jr. Clinicians Conference.  Anyone interested in a scholarship should contact Zelda Graham at the email listed above and she will forward application information once it is finalized.

Please note – while there is no registration fee to attend either conference, participants are responsible for their own travel expenses. And watch for a future announcement with registration details.
