The Chair of the Association for Conflict Resolution, Sharon Press, circulated this announcement on the AALS DR Listserv last week:
October 20 (third Thursday in October) is Conflict Resolution Day (as organized by the Association for Conflict Resolution) and the week of October 17 – 23 in Mediation Week (as organized by the ABA Section on Dispute Resolution). I encourage you to recognize these days in some fashion in your classes and/or at your school. There are many different ways ones can join the celebration of people around the world:
- hold a brown bag/round table discussion on a DR topic
- hang a conflict resolution day poster on your door (posters are available in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese from ACR http://www.acrnet.org/CR_DAY_RESOURCES/)
- recognize the students who participate in your mediation clinic
- partner with a local K-12 school and have your students talk about conflict resolution
-
invite alum whose practice involves ADR to talk with your students
If you want additional ideas on what you can do, you can visit ACR’s (www.acrnet.org/crday) and the ABA’s websites http://www.americanbar.org/groups/dispute_resolution/resources/national_mediation_week.html…. or send [Sharon] an email.
Finally, as chair of ACR’s Conflict Resolution Day Committee, please let [Sharon] know what you do to celebrate. It would be great to have full participation from the listserv!
