In line with Michael’s previous post on jobs, let me also link to Emily Menn’s list of Jobs in Dispute Resolution.  Emily, who is one of Marquette’s grads in Dispute Resolution and now the Director of Education and Professional Development for the New York State DR Association, runs a listserve for those interested in either posting a job opening or looking for one.  Anyone who wants to receive her monthly mailings can sign up directly with her as noted in her email.  I have cut and pasted the entire listing below so that everyone can see the lovely variety of jobs now available in the field.  Good luck to all!

The U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution (U.S. Institute) is a program of the Morris K. Udall Foundation, a federal agency dedicated to continuing the legacy of the late Congressman Udall in consensus-building, environmental policy and Native American affairs. Hofstra University School of Law seeks a Coordinator of ISCT and Development Research to provide administrative services related to the Institute of the Study of Conflict Transformation (“ISCT”) activities, including running the day-to-day operations of ISCT. ISCT sponsors and organizes training events, lectures, and symposia, conducts research, and produces scholarly and practice-oriented print and video resources for the conflict resolution field. These services will include: first-line response to all inquiries about ISCT programs and resources; assistance in program marketing and event coordination for ISCT-sponsored programs; ISCT database and website maintenance; ISCT Board meeting coordination; maintenance of ISCT records and files, including mediator certification records. The Administrator will work with an off-site ISCT Coordinator who will oversee the administrative work and provide liaison to the ISCT Board.

The Coordinator of ISCT and Development Research will also work within our Office of Institutional Advancement, providing prospect research and other kinds of support for our development and alumni relations efforts, including data base maintenance. The Coordinator will assist with data entry and information management for donors and prospects, and coordinate, design, and maintain policies/procedures, fundraiser prospect management, reporting, and statistical analysis.

Professor and Director Dispute Resolution Institute, Hamline University School of Law, St.Paul, MN
Date posted: 8/15/2008  Hamline University School of Law seeks a Director for its internationally acclaimed Dispute Resolution Institute (DRI), ranked in the top five among U.S. dispute resolution programs by U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT for eight consecutive years. The Director will lead the law school’s substantial alternative dispute resolution (ADR) initiatives with the assistance of a four-person administrative staff and support from twelve faculty colleagues who regularly teach ADR subjects.

The Director’s responsibilities will include strategic planning, curriculum development, maintenance and growth of relationships with relevant national and international scholarly and professional associations, scholarship production, teaching, and contributing (together with all faculty) to the law school’s efforts to attract law students and place them in rewarding employment upon graduation. The Director also will work with colleagues in other divisions of the university to develop fully integrated, campus-wide, comprehensive initiatives in conflict resolution.
Candidates are expected to hold a J.D. or, for exceptional candidates, a Ph.D in conflict resolution; have demonstrated experience in ADR; and take the lead in integrating the law school’s ADR efforts with the law school’s other centers of excellence (see below), as well as with the university’s graduate schools, including the newly created School of Business. Significant scholarship in the field is preferred. This is a tenure-track position with faculty rank.
DRI’s core activities include January and Summer Term domestic institutes; study abroad programs in London, Rome, and Budapest; a certificate program in advocacy and problem solving for J.D. students; a certificate program in dispute resolution for lawyers and other professionals; and a biennial symposium with papers published in the law school’s Journal of Public Law & Policy. In addition, the Mediation Center for Dispute Resolution, an affiliated non-profit with its own director, serves as DRI’s praxis arm by providing consulting, direct neutral services, and sliding fee scale family law mediation services.
The work of DRI is complemented by the law school’s newly-formed Health Law Institute (HLI), which in its first two years has introduced a comprehensive curriculum for J.D. students and a series of specialty offerings in the Summer and January Terms for health professionals in the Upper Midwest, cosponsored a symposium on Conflict Resolution in Health Care, and launched two certificate programs, including a new program for health care compliance officers.
