I’m looking at a new year’s card printed by my friend, Steve Harris, proprietor of Hands Press in Berkeley, that really expresses the values of our community. Let us hope that these values will be increasingly honored in the coming year.

My friend, Peter Salem, the executive director of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, said that this list of words reminded him of what the Purdue basketball team decided to do this season to use “their sporting platform to push values they believe make the world a bit better … [and] help to mend a splintering country.”
After a careful process, they decided to wear selected words on their shooting shirts during pre-game practices.
They chose the words Compassion. Empathy. Equality. Forgiveness. Friendship. Humility. Justice. Love. Loyalty. Peace. Respect. Togetherness. Tolerance. Unity.
